i'm dr. joe neely and i practice with thebarton oaks dental group. we're going to talk about our wisdom tooth abscess symptoms. anabscess is simply an infection that's trapped in an area. in the case of a wisdom tooththe gum, often a wisdom tooth because of it's position, third molar, isn't able to comeall the way through the mouth. only a portion of it will be exposed. the portion of thegum that is around that tooth only attaches in at the neck of the tooth. and so any gumaround the rest of it is unattached. so often the symptoms of an abscessed wisdom toothwould be that this gum would become infected and swollen. and that infection would spreadinto the tissues around the muscles. often because it's close to the joint it's not uncommonto have some joint pain with it. it's often
hard for you to bite down because as thistissue swells the tooth above it begins to hit against the swollen tissue which furthertraumatizes it. it's also possible with this tooth partially in for it to become decayedand the decay to get infection in the tooth itself. and then you would have a typicaltoothache symptom of being hypersensitive to hot or cold. and very, very sensitive tocontact against the tooth.
